Fun Fun Fun

What a crazy week! We had no school on Monday AND a cold day on Tuesday! Even though it was such a short week, we still had a lot to do...

Amelia shouted, "We had an ice cream party for collecting the most box tops!"
Jonah yelled, "We started our quarter three AR goals!"
Makenna whispered, "Our SUMDOG competition is over."
Phing howled, "We had an orchestra/band visit yesterday."
MJ whispered, "Our AR reward for second quarter is a pizza party."
"We had a special guest on Friday." exclaimed Amelia.
"We had a Social Studies test on Wednesday." exclaimed Makenna.
Austin shouted, "WE STARTED RECORDERS IN MUSIC!!"
Jacob screamed, "IT'S SNOWING TODAY!"
Cody yelled, "We have a Magic Show assembly today."

We had our ice cream reward party on Friday for collecting the most box tops during first quarter. In November, we collected 652 for a total of 1,501 for the entire first quarter of the school year! That equals $1,129.80 for Riverside's PTO. Wow!

Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful princess. Since her father ruled the city, she was certain that everyone adored her. "She has a very nice face!" exclaimed all of the subjects in her kingdom. She had the most fabulous sense of fashion; someone was always jealous of the way she dressed. The princess would never leave the castle without wearing her special glass slippers. She would often spin in a circle to show off her beautiful dresses (which is quite hard to do in glass footwear). Once she spun so fast, she almost tipped over! But she maintained her balance because, after all, she is the most graceful princess in all the land.

One day, several of her loyal subjects asked her for her autograph. Since she just happened to have a pencil in her pocket, she agreed. Above her signature she always wrote this sentence: You must love one another to have peace. She was such a wise and intelligent princess.

Even though she was the smartest princess of them all, her story does not have a happy ending. One morning, as she enjoyed a bowl of cereal, something tragic happened. She had stayed up late the night before reading and did not get enough sleep. The beautiful princess dozed off at the table. Her gorgeous face landed smack dab in the center of her cereal bowl (which happened to be full of milk because she always saved the milk for last.) She drowned that sunny morning in her milk.

Her subjects never quite recovered from their terrible loss. Everyone now only eats dry cereal for breakfast. Milk in cereal has been banned in order to avoid this tragedy from ever occurring again. Everyday at noon the church bell rings in honor of the beautiful princess. No one will ever be able to fill her shoes (especially because they were glass slippers custom made for her dainty feet).

This week went fast!

"We did a play!" yelled Genna
"We read 'The Crowded House." screamed Cody.
"We are learning division in Math," whispered Isaiah.
"We made Martin Luther King Jr. projects!" exclaimed Mari.
"We made 'peace' poems and doves to go with it." howled Phing.
"We started our SUMDOG challenge." exclaim
ed Amelia.
"We watched a movie about MLK Jr." cried Shane.
"We are starting Hockey in gym." yelled Austin.
"We are painting a landscape picture in Art." yelled MJ.
"We get a ice cream party next week for collecting the most box tops first quarter." yelled Aidren.
"This is the last day for our second quarter AR goals," exclaimed Reagan.
"We get to make suggestions for what our reward should be for meeting our AR goals." yelped Ella.
Bethany screeched, "We're starting recorders in Music soon!"
"The Spelling Bee is in two weeks." whispered Courtney.
"We are making hand necklaces with our Kinderbuddies." exclaimed Brett.
"We are finishing our realistic fiction stories," exclaimed Jonah.
"In science, we mixed food coloring, milk and dish soap together." exclaimed Kobe.
"In social studies, we are researching important people in American History." whispered Elijah.
"On Tuesday, we get to start working towards our 3rd quarter AR goals!" screamed Makenna.

We do not have school on Monday, January 21st. On Tuesday, January 22nd, we are having a school-wide assembly, so please wear your Riverside apparel to show your support!

Second quarter is officially over. Check out how many students reached their 2nd quarter AR goals! I am so proud of how much effort you put into this! I can't wait to see your success next quarter.

My snowman melted because...

Snowflakes falling
Thick and fast,
Build a snowman
Make him last . . .

Snowflakes falling,
Swirling, slow,
My snowman melted -
Where'd he go?

Every Friday we get to hang out with some amazing kindergarteners. We love to read books with them and help them with their sight words. Today we worked together on a 'melted snowman' project.

We glued together paper to make it look like our snowmen were melting. Then we wrote down a few reasons why our snowmen might melt. Here are a few examples of their beautiful work:
