I am PLEASED to announce...

I am PLEASED to announce that I was proposed to today! Yep, that's right! Me, Miss Jensen, a PROPOSAL!

No, not a marriage proposal. My WONDERFUL third grade class came into our room during their science time (when they are in Mrs. Gauger's room) and  interrupted my spelling lesson to "propose me as their leader"! IT WAS AWESOME! Check out my new bling! =] I truly have the best class in the DC Everest District!

Week 2

Another fantastic week here at Riverside in room 32!

This Friday was the first day Weekly Reading Minutes are being sent home. This is homework, I repeat, THIS IS HOMEWORK! =] Students are asked to read at least 15 minutes a day, on their own time (outside of school) and record their minutes on the Weekly Reading Minutes sheet. This is a half sheet of blue paper. They will turn in their signed and completed minutes sheet and receive a new sheet EVERY Friday.

Each student will also have the opportunity to set a personal reading minutes goal. If they meet or exceed that goal for the month, they have a list of classroom rewards they get to choose from!

Our OUTRAGEOUS facts from this week were:
  • A lizard sticks its tongue out to smell.
  • Certain sharks walk on their fins underwater.

FIRST SPELLING TEST

Our first spelling test will be tomorrow (Friday) morning! Let's make sure we practice, practice, practice those short vowel words!

Tomorrow (9-14-12) will also be the LAST day to bring in your book order forms and money. I will be submitting the orders tomorrow afternoon!

Here is a copy of the math news sent home 9-12-12

Family Members,

The D.C. Everest School is concerned about your child’s retention of essential math skills in grades 1-4. A student’s ability to perform at higher levels of mathematics is directly related to their success on the essential math skills.

Each day, children will practice a set of problem that will help them prepare and review for an upcoming bi-weekly assessment.

Proficiency is determined from the average of each grades district scores. These scores are used to determine if a student needs additional instruction to learn the skills

Your child has taken the test attached. Please look these over and take note of your child’s progress thus far. Also, below is a list of the additional skills your child will be assessed on this year.

Please practice math facts with your child using dice, dominoes and cards. Here are videos that demonstrate different ways to practice the math skills.

If you have questions or concerns please let me know.  Thank you for supporting your child’s education!

Room 32's Theme Song "What I Am"

If what I am is what's in me
Then I'll stay strong - that's who I'll be
and I will always be the best "me" that I can be.

There's only one me, I am it
have a dream I'll follow it
It's up to me to try.

Oh! I'm a keep my head up high
Keep on reaching high
 Never gonna quit
 I'll be getting stronger.
And nothing's gonna bring me down
(no!)
 Never gonna stop, gotta go.
Because I know I'll keep getting stronger.

And what I am is thoughtful
what I am is musical
what I am is smart
and what I am is brave
what I am is helpful
 what I am is special
There's nothing I can't achieve.
Because in myself I believe in oh...

Gonna keep our heads up
 High
 Keep on reaching high
Never gonna quit
Just keep getting stronger.
And nothing's gonna bring us down
 (no!)
Never give it up, gotta go.
Because I know I'll keep getting stronger.

What I am is super
what I am is proud
what I am is friendly
 what I am is grouchy
what you are is magical
 what you are is special
There's nothing I can't achieve. Because in myself I believe in oh...

Gonna hold my head up high
Keep on reaching high
Never gonna stop
I'll be getting stronger.
Nothing's gonna bring me down
(no!) Never give it up gotta go, oh... yeah...
 I'll keep getting strong--er.
